Paola Masi throws ceramic pieces on a kick wheel, then molds, shapes and often opens them so that light can penetrate inside.
She is fascinated by the container as a metaphor for the human condition ,starting from the pure form in the utilitarian context to the sculptural and abstract.
Her work thus mirrors an intuitive and intimate process: the study of form and her love of the unseen, of that which is contained in form and transcends it.
The ceramic process becomes, for the artist, life’s laboratory : a re-encounter with the nature of each element.
The turning of the wheel, its dance.
The result is works in motion, changing shapes which are thrown, sculpted, finished with glazes of her own fabrication and finally fired at high temperatures.
